LIFE OF ELPIDIO QUIRINO

 LIFE OF ELPIDIO QUIRINO

The narrative of President Elpidio Quirino is a perfect example of how sheer determination can lead one from a modest childhood to national leadership. He was from Vigan, Ilocos Sur, and was born in a poor family, but eventually, he became a very educated person and worked his way through school. The struggle, which he had to go through at a very young age, later on, became the very basis of his public service. It also made him to be able to sense the needs of the common Filipinos, especially after the war hardships.

Quirino was a well-established government employee before he became president. He held the positions of a lawyer, congressman, senator, and then vice president. Each position was an opportunity for Quirino to gain deeper insights into law, government, and international relations. What particularly stands out is the way he dealt with the obligations in the midst of a country that was still recovering from the aftermath of World War II. Quirino was no ordinary routine-following politician, which he had to take the hardest decisions when the nation was still very delicate.

His administration was characterized by the desire to restore the Philippines. Quirino advocated for the rehabilitation of the economy, established good relations with foreign countries, and promoted housing and social welfare programs. Restoring and making the economy stable as well as government operations after the war was one of the Quirino’s administration’s achievements. Yes, his government faced accusations, but it is undeniable that the president accepted a tough job at a tough period and then he made the country progress.

Quirino's life is an example of how resilience, education, and service can make a leader. His path to power is a reminder that national progress is not quick or easy. It is a process of gradual work, and sometimes leaders who silently rebuild the country's foundations after a crisis are the ones who take part in the process.

SECOND JOURNEY

SECOND JOURNEY

This quarter has been full of new lessons and discoveries that really helped me grow both academically and personally. This second quarter, I learned so many things like putting background picture, background color, font size and color, etc. using tags. and also I learned how to manage my time better, especially when balancing schoolwork, projects, and personal responsibilities. I also discovered that learning doesn’t only come from books but also from experiences like individual working, class discussions, and even small challenges that pushed me to think critically and creatively.

Of course, it wasn’t an easy journey. I faced a lot of challenges, especially when deadlines started to pile up and some activities are getting so complicated.

There were times when I felt tired and unmotivated, but I reminded myself that these struggles are part of the learning process. I also found it difficult to stay focused at times, especially with distractions at home and online.

To overcome these challenges, I started organizing my schedule more carefully and setting small goals for each day. I asked help from teachers and classmates whenever I couldn’t understand something, and I made sure to review my notes regularly. I also learned to take short breaks when I felt overwhelmed, so I could come back with a clearer mind. These habits really helped me become more responsible and disciplined with my studies.

Moving forward, I plan to continue improving my study habits and maintaining a positive attitude toward learning. I want to become more consistent, especially in submitting tasks on time and preparing ahead for quizzes and exams. I also hope to participate more actively in class and group activities to build my confidence and teamwork skills. Every quarter is a new chance to grow, and I’m excited to keep doing my best in the next one.

OUR HERO

"OUR HERO"

Every October, we celebrate National Teacher’s Month, honoring the people who dedicate their lives to shaping our minds and hearts. This year’s theme, “My Teacher, My Hero,” reminds us that teachers are not just educators—they are mentors, role models, and silent heroes who guide us toward our dreams. Their patience, understanding, and sacrifices often go unnoticed, but their impact lasts a lifetime.

Teachers face challenges every day, from managing different learning styles to balancing lessons and emotional support for their students. Yet, they continue to teach with passion and hope. Their dedication is what molds us into responsible, kind, and capable individuals. They inspire us not only to learn but also to believe in ourselves, even when we doubt our abilities.
I express my gratitude and respect to my teachers by showing them appreciation in both simple and meaningful ways; by listening attentively in class, doing my best in every activity, and saying a simple “thank you” for their guidance. I also believe that living by the values they taught us how to show real discipline, kindness, and perseverance. One of the best ways to honor them. After all, every success I achieve is also a reflection of their effort and dedication.
To all teachers, thank you for being our heroes. You may not wear capes, but your lessons, patience, and encouragement continue to light the way for every student’s future. Your influence reaches far beyond the classroom, shaping generations that will carry your wisdom forward.

OUR SCIENCE

"OUR SCIENCE"

Science has always been humanity’s compass in navigating the unknown. The 2025 National Science Month, themed “Harnessing the Unknown: Powering the Future through Science and Innovation,” calls us to look at uncertainties not as obstacles, but as opportunities. The unknown fuels curiosity, and curiosity fuels discovery. From decoding the human genome to exploring the edges of space, science shows us that stepping into unfamiliar territory is the only way forward.

In the coming decades, the relationship between science and society will grow even stronger. Breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and biotechnology are already reshaping the way we live, work, and communicate. As challenges like climate change and global health threats persist, science is society’s best hope to adapt and thrive. Innovation does not happen in isolation; it is society that both drives scientific questions and benefits from their answers.

At the same time, science comes with responsibility. Advancements in genetics, robotics, and space exploration raise ethical and social questions that cannot be ignored. Society must not only embrace innovation but also learn to guide it wisely, ensuring that discoveries serve humanity rather than divide it. This partnership between knowledge and values will determine whether science becomes a tool for equity and sustainability or a force for further inequality.

Ultimately, celebrating science is about celebrating the future. The theme reminds us that what we dare to discover today will shape generations to come. As long as society continues to nurture curiosity, invest in research, and encourage innovation, the unknown will always be a source of progress, not fear.

CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE RESILIENCY OF FILIPINOS

"CLIMATE CHANGE AND

THE RESILIENCY OF FILIPINOS"

Climate change is by no means something distant or in the future—it is actually taking its toll significantly upon day-to-day existence in the Philippines, coming suddenly and steadily in many respects.

One of the main causes of such a concern is the release of greenhouse gases, specifically those that originate from the combustion of coal, oil, and other carbon-based fuels that are widely used to generate electricity and power transportation sectors. The continued heating of the oceans as well as the atmosphere results in more energy that is potentially at the storms' disposal, thus making storms more powerful and intense typhoons. Also, as the years go by, the build-up of warmer temperatures introduces changes in the rainfall cycle, resulting in extended spells of drought in particular spots, yet at the same time making others experience torrential downpours that are severe and intense

Deforestation and land use changes are significantly responsible for the current environmental emergency that humanity is experiencing today. When forests are cut down for one reason or another, whether to give way to agricultural activities, to expand urban settlements, for logging concessions, or for mining activities—not only is the critical capability for carbon storage severely reduced, but the natural shields that safeguard us from dangerous weather-related events also become much weakened. Ecosystems like forests, mangroves, and coral reefs perform a fundamental role in minimizing the likelihood of flooding, cushioning the effects of the storm surge, halting soil erosion, and safeguarding the high biodiversity of the planet. Where these precious natural resources and security shields are absent, communities become much more vulnerable when disasters, inevitably, strike.

Rapid urbanization, especially in coastal and low‐lying areas, compounds these risks. Poorly planned growth often means inadequate drainage, clogged waterways, and informal settlements in hazard‐prone zones. During heavy rains, monsoons, or typhoons, water has fewer paths to drain away, increasing flooding. Rising sea levels also encroach on coastal lands, salinize groundwater, and change the dynamic of storms and tides.

More often than not, incremental changes of the progressive sort that build up over the course of years take the biggest hit at the poorest sections of society. Areas like agriculture, fishing, and others that heavily depend upon functioning and reliable ecosystems are especially sensitive to even fractional incremental changes in the conditions of climate: say, warmer days that can elicit heat stress, less reliable rainfall regimes that can jeopardize water availability, warmer oceans that can impact marine ecosystems, and moving fisheries populations that can precipitate economic uncertainty. The concomitant disruption of food supply chains, water stress, and many health risks including vector-borne diseases and heat stress become much more regular and widespread. All of these take insidiously cumulative tolls upon and undermine individuals' capabilities to cope with shifting conditions.

OUR LAST

“OUR LAST”

This September was such a busy but fun week because of the Intramurals. Everywhere you looked, there was so much happening—games, booths, cheers, and even pageants. In our part, as a good student, we decided to help our classmates from MAPEH club to finish their work earlier. We helped them with the designs, the set up, and we even made bracelets that they could sell. It wasn't boring, because we feel like we're part of it, and it was nice to see how everyone's efforts added up to something more and bigger.

Another is we supported our classmate who joined the Mr. & Ms. Intramurals to encourage him, we were cheering for our classmate. He didn’t win, but honestly, that didn’t matter to us. We were just so proud of him for trying and showing so much effort. He carried our section well, and that alone made us happy.

Of course, the whole week was tiring. We were all busy including the athletes, and even the teachers were caught up since they acted as coaches for the different teams and other things, But despite the exhaustion, we still found the perfect time to laugh, rest, and enjoy the little moments together.

Looking back, I think what made the Intramurals special wasn’t just the games and sports or the booths — it was the teamwork, the support we gave one another, and the memories we shared. I’ll definitely remember this week as one of the good moments in our last junior highschool year.
